Having a nice chat with one of the best hustler in Cape Town
SnR Snarks Ou is classified has a hustle artist who always get right deals. So how do you do it?
Snarks Ou I'm really honored to be classified as that, it is one of the reasons that motivate me to keep going but besides that it's the passion, the hunger and self belief I have. I don't wait for opportunities to be opened I open opportunities myself, I convince the corporate people and make them believe in me. I take chances and I goggle a lot, I found some of the big radio stations that played my music through Google. That's my secret which is no longer a secret now cause you also know about it.'then he laugh'
SnR You not doing Hip Hop for the fun of getting in stage, I see Hip Hop lives in you as you passionate about it. When did you start rapping?
Snarks Hehe exactly! I started in 2008.
SnR Yhoo you've been to long in the game mos. What are the disadvantage of getting air played as a local artist who doing Hip Hop?
SnR Yes I have been, don't you think I qualify to be called a Legend now? Lol kidding. For a normal rapper there are no disadvantages in getting airplay, I think it's an advantage on its own cause people get to hear about you more often and get to hear your music at daily basis. Some of them even idolize you, you develop into a brand. But for Snarks Ou it's a whole different story. I feel like I'm limited to say how I feel, I have no freedom of speech cause people who hear my music in radio and make me their role model because they loved that particular song of mine. I'm still struggling on that one but it's for a good cause so I'm willing to sacrifice for my fans. I try to stay clean as much as I can in my tweets and updates.
SnR Hahahaha wena kanjani. So you doing music for the people? as you said you don't have freedom of speech
Snarks Ou Yes definitely. I do music for people, but only people who are not rappers. I seeing pint of doing music if I was just doing it for me, I wouldn't get the fun I'm getting now. I'm the people's spokesperson because not everyone has a talent to write and not everyone has guts to stand in a room full of different people whom some of them could be also part of the state and say fuck the government!!!! Snarks Ou is there for cases like that. And that was just an example. So every now and then I make a track which I'm sure most people will relate to but I don't get really deep because I don't want to depress people with my music. That's why I choose to rap in crunky beats cause my aim is to entertain but if you pay attention to my music you can learn a thing or two. I represent everyone who can't voice out their views, I motivate people to do what they feel is comfortable for them cause doing what is done by others can lead you to a wrong direction. Our heros fought for us to be free so by doing boom bap cause your friends don't like crunk you oppressing yourself. Hahahaha. I'm just excited about this interview. You doing a great job
SnR Which role did Hip Hop play to you?, Does it change the way you think. And who's your role model in Hip Hop Industry
Snarks Ou Hip Hop made me believe in myself and made me realize that I can change people's lives cause being a rapper doesn't just mean you flip rhymes, kill the crowd and then go home but it is touching souls out there, being a good example to the public and inspiring people who had no purpose in life to be like you or a doctor or a lawyer. No it didn't change the way I think but made me change and touch so many people out there. That made me gain more confidence so anyone who says I'm wack is lying and if it's the wackness in me that makes people come to me and say they were motivated by my tracks to do whatever they do then I'm sorry I won't quit the wackness. My role model is my mom and Snarks Ou. Those two people keep me going...
SnR Wow Snarks Ou I like it when you mention wackness. People be like these dude is wack how come he get mentioned in things like Back To The City, hes getting airplay in big radio station. How do you deal with questions like that?
Snarks Ou I pay no mind to them because they don't come direct to me with those questions. . . So I don't even deal with them I just keep pushing my music hoping to get me a good deal.
SnR Hey it was nice having a chat with you. You did good job with that Back To The City competition you made Cape Town proud.
