The Flame Factory
brings you the 2nd Mayibuye Hip Hop Festival
The Flame Factory is an up and coming young company specializing
in events, artist’s management, PR, aspiring to get into alternative
sponsorship procurement, distribution, social entrepreneurship, publishing as
well as socially conscious awareness campaigns. Our first initiative was an
event “021 CALLZ”; a continuing event launched last year, where we call out and
host artists from outside Cape Town and South Africa. We proudly and
successfully hosted and headlined Qalazive from P.E and Dimitri from Zimbabwe.
We have also successfully hosted The ShatterDome Battle League on the 5 April
2015, which was a rap battle league, where emcee’s lyrically square off with
other. Now our sights are firmly set on the 2nd Mayibuye Hip Hop
Festival.
Mayibuye
Hip Hop festival:
borrowed the name from the saying Mayibuye Africa. We celebrating
everything that is African Hip Hop, it’ll be a melting pot of creative artistic
expression through music as well as the different art forms. It’ll take place
in our own backyard…Khayelitsha. We seek to show the link between the cultures
of indigenous African people and how it relates to the culture and art form
that is Hip Hop. We embracing our history and roots in order to move ahead
armed with the right knowledge. We are telling stories through The Arts, that
are true and hair raising, especially given the horrific xenophobia plaguing
our country. We’re sending a message socially relevant to the society we live
in about the place we (Black) Africans find ourselves in right now regarding
our struggles, be they economic, social or personal. Last year the event was part
of the African Week Celebration collectively organized by RadicalExpressions,
The Underground disciple, The Flame Factory as well as other organizations.
At the same time the festival serves as an artistic and
business networking hub for all creatives as well as entrepreneurs. To exchange
knowledge, skills, ideas and contacts with all those affiliated with this
festival. An event of this nature will be a highlight to any artistic career
and entrepreneur who participates in the planning stages of the event: whether
through sponsoring, marketing, sourcing talent and contributing whatever resources
are needed.
As it stands the Mayibuye festival is completely self-funded
by the organizing team of The Flame Factory. Potential funders are welcome
provided certain terms are met. We’re currently negotiating with Computicket
and Silulo to be our main outlet for the festival. We seek to create a
revolutionary, innovative and artistic space where artists from Cape Town will
showcase their craft and their art and their achievements are celebrated and
rewarded. One of the many highlights of the event, are the artists we invite
from other provinces as well as other countries outside South Africa: they get
the opportunity to showcase their art, in front on a new or foreign audience
with the love of Music in common. Artists of different calibers have been
invited to the Festival; the end product will be a great day for Hip Hop. Come
one come all. Your support is appreciated.
