HIP HOP DIVAS
They say Hip Hop is a tough game only the best survive. Hip Hop is a MALE dominated genre where you will find few female rappers in the industry, we even hardly see female rapper at the line-up.
Being a female in Hip Hop Industry is very challenging whether you an emcee, fan or a event organizer because mens don't take females serious. Women's are facing lot of challenge across the world not in MUSIC only, we live in a Country where you will hear on the newspaper, radio or television that a women was beaten or she was rapped. Its even hard on us to engage or raise our views in a debate session because the minute you interact on that debate you have a fear of being around mens, you know 4sho that even if you say a right thing you will find others calling you by names more specially in Hip Hop debate they will say "you are a group that's why you say that". Same ladies who support hip hop in Cape Town quit because of such behavior.
Cape Town have few female rappers, Kanyi is been rapping since/around the year 2000 she rapper in Xhosa. Kanyi is one of the dopest artist in Cape Town among the male dominated genre, she's the artist you wanna listen to when she's on stage. Kanyi was also featured in a track by Driemanskap a crew from Gugulethu, she also blow people away by her album called Iintombi Zifikile the album is way too dope I must say.
Mic Substance is also one of the female rappers in Cape Town who's been in the game from the year 2005, they say Mic was inspired by a crew called Lampiter Clan. She also release her first album in 2007 that called Fungwa uHure "freedom of mind". Mic performed a lot in open mic sessions around Cape Town places like Khayelitsha, Phillipi,Gugulethu also in Delft at the Rent Office. Mic Substance went to a tour in Sweden with Kanyi and Driemanskap.
You don't have to be in Cape Town to support Hip Hop Thandi Hona Queent supported the Royal Open Mic Session "ROMS in eMfuleni by Thembinkosi Terror Matika while she was in Jozi. Queent was not really a hip hop fan back then, up until she moved to Cape Town where she attended sessions and shows around Cape Town. As she was a supporting ROMS she then became a family member with the team and she was making sure that the session runs smooth. ROMS was that family where you would see them supporting one another like when a artist is performing outside Cape Town they would organize a transport for the artist and also for the fans to accompany that particular artist. Queent says "during the madness I did not realize I was falling for Hip Hop, its a pity now that the session are on hold but ROMS will be coning back soon, Terror is busy trying to put together a proper sound"
Fundi Ntshwanti is one of the women who have been dominant in Cape Town Hip Hop for some time, she's also an inspiration to those few females that have made love for Hip Hop. She is also one of the dopest Female host I know, she knows how to control a crowd also the performing artists/crews. Fundi amongst many things is also a singer, she recently collaborated with her artists Ceaze on a song 'Nomvici' they dedicated to Ceaz's late mom Fundi's late aunt, then collaborated with Samora on 'Lyrical Nonsense'.Fundi is also the face of HipHop Kaslam Event and also the face of the Sky Lounge Poetry that's happens every Wednesdays at Guguletu ny-6.
