ALBUM REVIEW's With MADIRA: RIVLN CLIQUE
When someone mentions Cape Town Hip Hop, you think "Drimanskap", TOP, Ill Skills and Kanyi, right? But now you have to think twice. Meet the new four man crew from Cape Town, did I say new four man crew? No I'm talking crap these guys have been in the game for a long time. I spent some time with Ncutshe, one of the founders of the group. This guys is so down to earth, you can mistaken him for the ground and wanna sit on him *Jokes* . Yes sit on him like I sat on his group not knowing what they are capable of. Following is the interview I had with him, Ncutshe.
Who is Rivlin Clique?
_is a soulful hip hop group, which consist of four guys namely Relevation,Invisible Virus,Luhlakanipho and Ncutshe.
Where is Rivlin Clique from?
_we are hailing from Phillipi, another Township in Cape Town.
How did you guys come up with the name Rivln Clique?
_we decided to up with something that would be personal and meaningful to us, hence we took the initials of our names which gave birth to the name Rivln Clique
You have a Mixtape out "GodSend" tell me more about it and who you worked with on this project?
_This offering is mainly about bringing that soulful feel to the hip hop at the same time breaking the boundaries by reaching a different audience rather than solely focusing on hip hop audience , hence we got tracks like Sondela Kubawo , Abaphambukeli songs which also attract people who are into Gospel music without losing that hip hop essence.
(Producers and Artists)
_ we have worked with many talented vocalists who, I believe, made the project more accommodating people like Ziyanda,Kholo,Unathi,Aylo, Luvo,Hlengie and Warra
_ And we had Sibusiso Nyamakazi as the only rapper we managed to featured on the project.
_ We also worked with some of Cape Town's most talented Producers.
Blaq Scientist, Aylo (Purple beats) , Pzho, Vessel, Looz Boy&Knight and I, Ncutshe.
Where can people get this album and how much does it cost?
_ It's only R60 If you are around Cape Town free delivery and it's only R70 if we have to.

Following is how I reviewed the eleven tracked Mixtape by Rivln Clique.
Intro (Trck1)
What a nice execution of the whole album. In this intro Rivln Clique takes you on a summary journey of the whole album in just under 2 minutes (1:42). This is a very unique and simply way of telling you what to expect from the whole album. It ends with IV saying ".....if you think I'm bluffing just peep this". Wow!!! That line just make you wanna hear what's next.
Music (Trck2)
I find this song interlinked with the Intro. As it continues to the hint you got from the Intro. The song says it all. Ziyanda and her waving vocals makes it super nice. On this track you get to hear what kind of healing people like me get from listening to music.
Sondela Kubawo (Trck3)
Don't get it twisted. I heard people always using Driemanskap's "Izulu Lelam" as a comparison to this song. They got it wrong, these songs are way too different. The only thing common is the fact that both these Groups are spreading Gospel through Hip Hop. Hlengi is just good on her own. This track will uplift your soul and put you on that Sunday morning mode, when all your folks are at Church. You don't need to go to Church in order to "Sondela kuBawo". Like me just Pray and Praise. Amen!!
Yours Sincerely (Trck4)
Just like it was explained in the Intro. On this song you get a short lift ride of how Rivln Clique met with their love/r "Music/Hip Hop". Aylo makes this song sound international with his melodies and humming in the background. Who would have thought? Jazz meets Hip Hop!! Clear and straight to the point. Luhlakanipho's Xhosa is on Higher Grade it leaves you wondering where the F did you misplace your Xhosa-English Dictionary. This is a nice "Love Song" about "GodSent Music".
Tata (Trck5)
This song just add more sadness to my soul. Ncutshe and Luhlakanipho tackles a subject that most of the people relate to but few people talk/sing about. We are all Mama's Babies at some point but to some uTata ngu Mama and Vice Versa, so living without one is not a nice thing no matter the reason. Let alone the content of the song but the backing Opera by Luvo takes it to another level. Usuke uzibone ulingena izulu. This is sadness living without any of your parents. It makes me wonder about abano Taxi nalama Polisa abulalwa kangaka. Ashiya abantwana beziNkambunca.
Umzingisi (Trck6)
*Sigh*
Big ups Ncutshe, I see you Re-Sceptre. On this song I've got to give props to Kholo. No disrespect to the whole crew. This song just gives you hope, hence its my current Anthem haha. Hope that tomorrow is a better day. Hope that Rivln Clique will make it. Again Luhlakanipho's Xhosa is not the one you will get from any Emcee. EsasXhosa sika Test no Dla if you nah min. You can really feel that the presence of God was there when this album was produced. "Ungaphel'Amandla".
baphambukeli (Trck7)
Get your Xhosa-English Dictionary, I'm Xhosa but I was not good in Xhosa at school, I'm sure that's what most of us are common about. Asizingci ngobubani bethu. Its so inspiring to hear how these guys use their language in a proper way that makes even more sense than when they would have sang it in English. Again with that GodSent motivation and inspiration this song speaks to everyone and leaves you with that "The-Sky-Is-The-Limit" tip.
Misinformed (Trck8)
I normally, in many occasions, hear IV shouting "We refuse to be Misinformed" and I always knew that there is more about it than that 5 word sentence. Now I'm happy I got a chance to at least listen and hear clearly what this is about. So many of us are misinformed in many ways. People convince other people to believe things that sometimes are not even true. It happens nakule Hip Hop. But what I'm sharing with, I proudly say, its not misinformation. Get the album/mixtape uzivele. SukumJaja umntu ungamazi, get to know someone better. That way you will be not be misinformed. Ziyanda says "Cause I was led to believe/ that's the way it should be/ and I thought I was real/ I guess I never knew that I was deceived/" so many people are led to believe lies so don't be like them. Don't be Misinformed.
Enkangala (Trck9)
I have to confess, I'm one of those who looked down on Luhlakanipho because I didn't know what he is capable of. I guess imma blame him for he has not shown what he is capable of or I guess not. I think I should blame myself for I have slept on "Rivln Clique". On this track Luhlakanipho brings you that element of Hip Hop that most people always neglect "POETRY". This guys is a Poet, YiMbongi YiSiba. The beat is too nice, Big ups to Black Scientist. From the first verse, this song is the one that makes that loud crowd at every session wanna come close to the stage. Ezifana nam ke zohlala zimela pha e BACK coz I get to hear music clearer. Again esisxhosa sika Test, tjo hay Luhlakanipho mfethu. HG Xhosa. Andifuni ukuxoka andiyazi kuphi e Nkangala, I couldn't dwell more about the actual track coz its too much for me.
For the Kids (Trck10)
With Unathi and Sbu, RC brings a topic that many people don't always consider as something to talk about. Me as a Parent I relate to this song (Not ezikaka zimithisa gqibe zibaleke kodwa zizibize otata, ooSwine. And you as a child you relate too. Every time I read the Daily Voice soze ndingafundi ngomntana obulelweyo okanye or who was raped or any kind of abuse. These are the social challenges that we need to sing about. Songs of courage and hope. Educating music. Not hate speech. That GodSentMusic.
I'm Sorry (Trck11)
This is one of the most hard words to say to any person. People even wait for the reconciliation day in order for them to beg and ask for forgiveness. Problem is, we are most of us, in denial. We don't want to take the blame. This is the type of song that you'd even play for you girlfriend, mother, father or anyone you have wronged and it will deliver the message as it is. And the fact that they used Ziyanda on this song, makes it accommodate everyone. When you have done someone wrong, just accept your wrong doings and say "YOU ARE SORRY" until then isazela sizakuhlala kuwe.
Exposure (Trck12)
Like me, before you listen to this track, you would expect to hear these guys singing about how they are enjoying being famous and having groupies after fame. Mhhh!!!! Lol.... Like many singing for groupies and wanting to be treated like celebrities. This is what we see in the music industry. IV with his opening statement he be like "..... Gotta tell ya'll Emcees/ you gotta stop being commodities/ Let's get what's ours/ watch out for the parasites/ they will suck you dry/ Remember that/ word is born. #NuffSaidSalutes# Performing at gigs and not getting paid while the organization makes money and you are just there to pull the crowd and to be see. ujampa-jampe just because you are going to be exposed. Uvuyela ukubekwa kwi Posters on every street corner just for Exposure. Nc Nc Nc!! I hope this is the lesson that most Emcees will learn. Phzo went hard on the beat like always.
This is a very good product, I'm really enjoying it. After reading this, I hope you will be inspired to get yourself a copy and stop waiting for your next friend to have it so you could copy it to your computer. Please support local talent. Artists support each other too. This album left me begging for more. Big Ups RC.
