Zimasa Mpemnyama event Review

Zimasa Mpemnyama is one of the few female fans that have been in this game for quit a long time she knows the movements in and out and she has been supporting local hip hop for a long time and she's an inspiration to some of us I had a little chat with her about the battles that took place on the 16th march and this is what she had to say about the Words and beats session that happened this past Saturday at the Baxter theater.

The show kicked off with an open mic session. Open mics are always good as they warm up the crowd and are a good platform for upcoming MC's. The open mic was nice. Some of the MC's struggled a bit with getting the crowd heated but some did it beautifully.
Generally the host had a problem of consistency. I strongly feel that there needs to be more consistency in the number of songs each MC is allowed to perform. Some MC's were allowed to perform accapela and some were not. One crew would perform 2 songs while another would perform 3 or 4. That is just unacceptable. Maybe the confusion was partly due to the fact that the MC was late, I don't know.
What was the criteria for the selection of the judges? (Just a question)
Personally I do not like battles but these battles were off the hook! I was surprised though to hear that the MC's were battling with written scripts (I don't know how I feel about that). All in all the battles were very entertaining. My favorite was Vegita and Snarks Ou's battle. Both of them were on some other tip! I did not appreciate however, how some of the MC's (Larry and Invisible Virus) started blaming the crowd for their inability to deliver. I would think that a battle is all about thinking on your feet and being creative so if you forget your lines and the crowd starts booing you, don't be mad just carry on (easier said than done I guess!).
I also absolutely loved the beat/producers challenge. I'm one of the people that feel that Principlez deserved to win (not because he didn't use samples) but because I just liked his beats better. This neeeeeeeeeds to happen again! I feel 2 beat makers need to judge the next one.
300 years, SSK, Bulie, Naked Myndz, DSO, Melanin Fam all held it doooooown. I thoroughly enjoyed all their performances. If I had to choose I would say 300 years and Naked Myndz (aside from the fact that they performed for almost 30 minutes!) killed it for me!
Lastly I think that in the next show a bouncer needs to be organized, and I'm not kidding! If a person starts doing shady and rowdy things they need to be thrown out! They disturb the show, harass the ladies and spill alcohol on people, which is not cool! If a person knows they can't handle their liquor they need to go home and sleep!
Apart from the Bus debacle, unfair Host and a crowd that was rowdy at times, the show was on point. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one.
